Factors affecting cooling rate Essay Example
Factors affecting cooling rate Paper Heat energy is conducted from the hot end to the cold end. It is transferred from atom to atom. At the hot end the atoms are vibrating a lot. The vibration is gradually passed along to the other atoms as they collide into each other. This happens in all substances, but in a metal something extra happens. A metal has many free-moving electrons. These free-electrons can travel through the metal, transferring the energy more quickly. Convection: The transfer of energy, by the movements of particles only in liquids and gases Radiation: We will write a custom essay sample on Factors affecting cooling rate specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Factors affecting cooling rate specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Factors affecting cooling rate specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer Energy from the Sun reaches us after travelling through space at the speed of light. When this hits an object, some of it is taken in or absorbed. This makes the molecules vibrate more and so the object hotter. Objects take in and take and give out energy as radiation all the time. Different objects give out different amounts of radiation depending on their temperature and their surface. Isaac Newton stated that the rate at which a warm object cools is approximately proportional to the temperature difference between the temperature of the warm object and the temperature of its surroundings. This is a typical cooling rate graph. Factors that affect the cooling rate of a liquid: Different sized beakers. Beakers made from different materials and colours. Conduction. Radiation. Evaporation. Infrared Waves. 1.) Different sized beakers. Convection can only take place in gases and liquids. Convection cannot take place in a solid because particles have restrictive movement. In a large beaker, there is a larger area for the liquid to transfer heat to whereas in a small beaker, there is a smaller area for the liquid to transfer heat to so less heat will be transferred. 2.) Beakers made from different materials and colours. 3.) Conduction of Heat. Conduction of heat is the process where vibrating particles pass on their extra kinetic energy to neighbouring particles. 4.) Radiation. 5.) Evaporation. When a liquid below its boiling point changes into a gas, this is called evaporation. It happens because some particles in the liquid move faster than others. The faster ones near the surface have enough energy to escape to form a gas. 6.) Infrared. Energy to heat us up travels from the Sun at the speed of light, jut like the light rays. The rays which cause the most heating are called infrared waves. All objects emit some infrared because of the motion of their atoms or molecules. Most radiate a wide range of wavelengths. As an object heats up, it radiates more and more infrared and shorter wavelengths. Aim: To investigate how the surface area of a beaker affects the cooling rate of a liquid. Prediction: I predict that the bigger the beaker, the less time it will take for the liquid to cool down. This is because gases and liquids are more liable to move around which allows them to transfer heat easily by convection. Convection cannot take place in solids because the particles have restrictive movement. In a bigger beaker, the particles have a larger area to transfer heat to whereas in a smaller beaker water particles have less area to move around in so less heat would be transferred. We know that if anything hot is poured it will eventually cool down. This process is rapid at first, then after a long period of time, the temperature of the liquid reaches room temperature. These temperature variations for cooling objects were summarised by Isaac Newton. He stated that the rate at which a warm object cools is approximately proportional to the temperature difference between the temperature of the warm object and the temperature of its surroundings. Fair Test: Start temperature: Ensure that the initial temperature reading of the water is always 70à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½C for all experiments. This is to make sure that there is no temperature variation in the start temperature. It will be taken into account that there will be a à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½0.5% accuracy level of this reading. Time: Ensure that the temperature readings are recorded as accurately as possible to sixty seconds for each experiment using a digital stopwatch. Radiation: Heat Radiation travels through transparent material such as glass. Therefore wrap a layer of aluminium foil around the beaker. Convection: Convection occurs when particles move from the hotter region to the cooler region. To ensure that no heat is lost due to this place an insulating material (wool) around the beaker. Evaporation: When a liquid evaporates, faster particles escape from its surface to form a gas. However, unless the gas is removed, some of the particles will return to the liquid. Place an insulating material (wood) that fits into the top part of the beaker to reduce evaporation. Room Temperature: While I carry out the experiment I will make sure that the room temperature is always the same using a thermometer with a 0.5% accuracy level.

a bill essays Representative introduces the following bill, which was referred to the committee on January tenth twenty thousand and one. Section One: Cigarettes are killing the uneducated youth. This bill is targeted towards the youth and protecting them against making the terrible decision to smoke. This bill will change the amount of smokers because the bill is going to make cigarettes less a part of society and make them less desired. Section Two: Every year cigarettes kill more Americans than were killed in World War 1, the Korean War, and Vietnam combined: Nearly as many as died in battle in World War 2. Each Year cigarettes kill five times more Americans than Traffic accidents. Lung cancer alone kills as many as die on the road. The cigarette industry is peddling a deadly weapon. It is dealing in peoples lives for financial gain. (Federal Drug Administration) The cigarette companies are deal ling the lives of lived ones for financial gain. The Tobacco industry doesnt just want your money it wants you life. The more death is has to announce is another way the cigarette word gets around. The cigarette company is ruthless when it comes to the lives, the more smokers, the more money. The youth replace the 1,200 people that die each day from smoking. Each day more than 3,000 young people become regular smokers- more than one million new smokers each year, 90 percent, which are going to be children. (Teen Smoking. The Application for the Use of Computer, the Processor as a Brain of Research Paper
The Application for the Use of Computer, the Processor as a Brain of Computer - Research Paper Example à The traditional disc drive has been experiencing a transition to the solid-state drive (SSD) system, as they have become more dense and lower cost. The application and use that the computer will be used for will determine the physical layout of the motherboard as well as the technical requirements. Desktop computers are usually configured with a motherboard that accepts plug-in cards for ease of expansion and reconfiguration. This makes it possible to install more video memory, higher quality sound cards, or take advantage of newer and more current standards, as they are made available. For example, wireless network cards can be installed that allows the user to communicate with a wireless network or hub. Motherboards that are designed for laptops usually have less capability for expansion due to the limitation of space considerations. A motherboard in a laptop will have all the associated circuitry required integrated into the design of the board. Whether the board is to be used in a desktop or a laptop, certain features and circuitry will reside on the motherboard. Each board is designed to accommodate a particular microprocessor and the board will have a socket and the necessary driver circuitry for it. The board will have the appropriate crystals and clock circuits that are needed to drive the processor at the required speed. Random access memory and the electronics it takes to move data between the processor and memory will also reside on the motherboard. The mass storage device in a computer has traditionally been a disc drive, but recent innovations have seen a move towards SSDs.Ã

The Achievement of Success in an Individuals Life Personal Statement - 5
The Achievement of Success in an Individuals Life - Personal Statement Example I chose the difficult path because I understood that education and knowledge serve to be important in the life of a person. I put in all my strength to cope up with the educational requirements of the university and I was assisted by my faculty members, who understood my problem and were highly supportive. English is not my first language and I did not hold much expertise in the language. I got enrolled in an English University where English was the medium of education. The lectures were delivered in English and English was the language used for communication with the teachers as well as the other students. The books were in English as well. My English language skills were not very good and it was a very difficult phase for me. This was because my writing, reading as well as communication skills were not up to the mark and I had to put in much hard work to cope with my studies. I found it difficult to take down notes during the lectures. This was because I had to pay full attention t owards listening to the teacher to understand the lecture and if I started taking notes, I used to lag behind in the lecture. Note taking was also an issue as I could not spell words properly and my writing speed was not up to the mark as well. I could not understand the normally used abbreviations as I was not familiar with them and had not used them before. The text was also difficult for me to comprehend with and I could not analyze the meanings of the readings assigned to me properly. Therefore, it was a very difficult situation for me and I needed a lot of guidance and help to overcome this problem. I did not know if I would ever be able to complete my education and achieve my degree from the university. But after thinking about my problem, I became determined that a person had to sacrifice and learn for becoming successful in his life. I decreased my leisure time and devoted my time to my education and learning. I organized myself and managed my time so that I could give the m aximum time to my studies. I bought a pocket dictionary for myself so that I could look up for words and understand them instantly. I installed English learning software in my laptop as well so that I could learn the proper pronunciation of words as well and so that I could learn proper sentences and their meanings. I asked my friends to communicate with me in English and correct me where I got wrong. I kept a fixed time for reading a newspaper article every day and to understand all the words in the article. I also worked towards the improvement of my writing skills by copying newspaper articles every day for up to one hour. I implemented these strategies as a part of my schedule and I made sure that I did not skip any of these activities. These were my personal steps to achieve success in my education. Teachers serve to be as true guides in the life of a person. This was proved by the assistance that was provided to me by my teachers to overcome my problem.Ã

Reasons Behind the Industrial Revolution Essay -- Industrialization Pa
Reasons Behind the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution was the widespread replacement of labor by machines driven by water wheels, windmills and later by steam power. This change called the Industrial Revolution was a process, which began in the 18th century and continued well into the 19th century. The Industrial Revolution was the result of interrelated changes, which transformed agricultural economies into industrial ones. The immediate changes made by the Industrial Revolution were the nature of productions. This included what was produced, as well as where and how they were produced. The Industrial Revolution replaced the Domestic System; this was when goods that were traditionally made in home or small workshops began to be manufactured in large factories. The Industrial Revolution overturned not only traditional economies but also whole societies. Economic changes caused far reaching social changes, including the movement of people to cities in search of work, the availability of a greater variety of materials, and new ways of doing business. These are a few of the several reasons why the Industrial Revolution was so important. This essay will explain what caused the massive change in Britain's industry. One major cause of the Industrial Revolution was Britain's population increase. Between 1780 and 1851, the population of Britain grew rapidly. Historians do not agree about the specific causes of the population explosion, but it is clear that two main factors were at work. These were the rising birth rate and the falling death rate. For a variety of reasons people lived longer and the death rate fell significa... ...the new ideas and inventions in industry. The reason for this is because if it weren't for Britain's population increases the development of the industries would not have been so important. Another reason why I think Britain's population increase was one of the major causes of the Industrial Revolution, this is because Britain's industry would not improved so well if Britain's population did not assist. This is due to the fact that Britain's population provided cheap labor to work in the factories made for Britain's industry. The reason why the inventions made in Britain helped so much in causing the Industrial Revolution was because the new inventions ensured that modernization in machines could speed up the production in goods; which was very important. This essay has explained why there was an Industrial revolution.

Sociocultural Influences on a Person’s Attitude Towards Physical Exercise and Heath
Sociocultural Influenceââ¬â¢s on a personââ¬â¢s attitude towards Physical Exercise and Health. Humans are by nature social beings. In trying to determine what makes us feel fulfilled, psychologists have found that a feeling of social connection or relatedness is near the top of the list of what we need to experience. We appear to be happiest when we successfully connect with others. Much of what we say and do is motivated by a desire to appear likeable, to gain social approval, to solidify group membership, to manage self-image, or to gain social support.Sociocultural factors that influence a personââ¬â¢s attitude towards Health and Physical exercise can be classified into three groups. They are * Self-presentation * Social Influence (social norms and persuasion) * Social support Self-presentation The number one most influential factor on how sociocultural influences do have on oneââ¬â¢s attitude towards health and physical exercise. Self-presentation is where a person tr ies to influence others on the perception of their own image.People make many different attempts to manage how othersââ¬â¢ view them because other people control many of the things we want to obtain, such as friendship, financial resources, or career advancement, we strive to gain othersââ¬â¢ approval or avoid rejection. In exercise and physical activity settings, these attempts to present ourselves favourably may have either positive or negative effects on our strivings to be physically active. For example, Tim is slightly overweight and has dietary habits that arenââ¬â¢t exactly the best and decide to join a gym.Tim doesnââ¬â¢t want to go and run on the treadmill next to a super fit world class athlete because his figure and athletic ability are notably different and he doesnââ¬â¢t wish to embarrass himself. We see in this example that Tim has this idea that because he isnââ¬â¢t the same as the super fit world class athlete that he isnââ¬â¢t healthy and theref ore he is reluctant to exercise because heââ¬â¢s afraid of embarrassing himself. Itââ¬â¢s people like Tim that are changing who they are and what they are trying to achieve because of either the public opinion or their friends opinion.Self-presentation is a major factor in influencing a personââ¬â¢s attitude towards health and physical exercise and the way they general perceive themselves in amongst the group or the community. Social Influence Following in contributing factors that influence a personââ¬â¢s attitude towards health and physical exercise is Social Influence. Social influence is when an individual's thoughts, feelings or actions are affected by other peopleââ¬â¢s opinions. If you have ever been in an audience at a large musical or theatrical performance, you may have noticed that the audience tends to clap in unison and stop clapping at the same time. You may have even started to clap when no one else did only to feel foolish and quickly stop clapping. Wha t you are experiencing in these situations is the power of social influence ââ¬â specifically, social norms and conformity. Social influence can be defined as a real or imaginary pressure exerted by others that shapes our behaviour. While self-presentation describes our actions or attempts to project a positive image to others, social influence describes the pressure exerted by others to influence our action. In exercise and physical activity settings, there are numerous examples of the power of social influence. Joining a fitness club because other friends pressure you join, or your teenagerââ¬â¢s desire to buy the latest pair of basketball shoes because Michael Jordan wears them and touts them on commercial television are both examples of the power of social influence. Social Support Finally, the last group called Social Support. Social Support provides reassurance and/or assistance, information or feedback through contact with other individuals or groups.People do not exerc ise merely to look good in otherââ¬â¢s eyes or because we have been persuaded by others to do so. Sometimes people exercise because they obtain social benefits from physical activity participation. An example would be Fiona is out running on her own and feels vulnerable and exposed and feels like everyone else watching is laughing at her. She joins a gym group that runs regularly and finds comfort in the fact that she isnââ¬â¢t the only person who may be struggling. The frequency or type of social contacts may have a strong influence on the general well-being of the person as we see in the example. As a whole, physical activity participation appears to be nurtured when there is a socially supportive atmosphere or when participants perceive social support when striving for their exercise goals. Plus having feedback from others that boosts their self-esteem helps and allows them to have the opportunity to find a group in which they feel comfortable and are supported emotionally a nd tangibly and are able to obtain useful guidance or advice from other exercisers, friends, family, or exercise leaders. In conclusion, the contributing factors mentioned above have a significant impact on the entire health spectrum. Emotional, Physical, Mental, Spiritual and Social aspects are all affected in how sociocultural factors influence a personââ¬â¢s ability towards a healthy lifestyle and staying physically active.
